Grand Traverse Resort & Spa invites you to discover golf in the grand Midwest Tradition. Set along Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay, in the most idyllic corner of Michigan 's lush woodlands, we invite you to see for yourself what a truly inspired game of golf can be.
Sculpted in the beauty of unspoiled nature, enveloped in soft lake breezes and fragrant forests, the Grand Traverse golf experience is unique to the Northwoods — comparable to the legendary links of northern Europe.
The Resort offers three distinguished 18-hole championship courses, complete pro shop facilities, and a magnificent Clubhouse.
On Course Joining Jack Nicklaus' The Bear and the Resort's original Spruce Run is Gary Player's The Wolverine. With each course's completely individual character and challenges, you'll find it difficult to choose which course to tackle first.
As the site of the Michigan Open as well as other professional golf tournaments, we are proud to be a Golf magazine Silver Medal resort. Our courses have also received awards from the publications Corporate Meetings & Incentives, Successful Meetings, and Golf Digest.
Designed by golf great Jack Nicklaus, The Bear is our best-known course and described as one of the toughest in the Midwest. You'll quickly appreciate this beautiful par 72, links-style course featuring Scottish terraced fairways, tiered greens, deep grassy roughs, moguls, mounds, and deep pot bunkers. Lakes, ponds, hardwood forests, streams, and fruit orchards are home to a variety of wildlife that give The Bear its character: golf in the midst of wild nature. Listen to what two of golf's legends have to say about The Bear:
Profile of The Bear
The Bear features:
-
Bentgrass tees, greens, and fairway
-
A challenging 7,065 yd. layout
-
Signature hole #13, par-3, 167 yds. from the blue tees, over water
-
4 lakes and 10 holes with water hazards
-
Wildlife including deer, ducks, blue herons, swans, and muskrat
Designed by former University of Michigan golf coach William Newcomb, Spruce Run was aptly named to reflect the numerous fir and spruce trees that line its fairways and undulating greens. The course gracefully winds among the rolling hills overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay.
More forgiving than The Bear, Spruce Run will challenge you and offer hours of fun. It's the perfect course for a relaxing morning or afternoon outdoors, spotting wildlife along the way. Yet it's also a championship course, and was home to the Michigan Open before the completion of The Bear.
